Woman with no pigmentation after IPL Laser Treatment

Truly Exceptional Results

IPL Laser Skin Rejuvenation

Everybody loves the sunshine! It’s good for the soul and the immediate effects it has on the skin such as a tan and healthy glow are much desired. However, in the long term sun exposure decreases the production of collagen and leads to uneven pigmentation, redness and a lack of firmness.

Our Ellipse IPL Skin rejuvenation treatment rejuvenates the skin by removing pigmentation, diffused redness and leaves the skin feeling smoother and more even in texture.

Learn More About IPL Skin Rejuvenation

How does it work?

Age spots and hyper pigmentation contains melanin and diffuse redness contains haemoglobin. The light is absorbed by the melanin in the pigmented area and the heat reaction effect, breaks down the melanin in the keratinocytes. A photo toxic reaction occurs in the melanin vesicles and the excess melanin turns darker before it comes away from the skin. The light is also absorbed by the superficial blood vessels in the skin. The heat reaction caused coagulates blood vessels, destroys protein in the wall of the vessel and stimulates collagen production. IPL also treats the propioni-bacterium in acne and protein present in cells which produce collagen.

What can I expect?

The sensation of the treatment is often described as similar to the feeling of a rubber band flicking against the skin. The sensation only lasts for a fraction of a second and most clients report a feeling of moderate discomfort. The pigmentation will become darker in colour immediately after the treatment. A few days after the treatment the pigmented areas will develop a light crust (this is a good sign that the treatment has worked). After that, the skin will look smoother and fresher. A few more treatment sessions may be required to keep a smooth and youthful appearance.

Skin rejuvenation is the treatment of sun damaged skins. The IPL laser treatment can be used for diffuse redness (high colour) and pigmented lesions such as hyper pigmentation, solar lentigines (sun spots), freckles, thread Veins and birthmarks.

On average 1-3 treatments at 4 week intervals are needed for the best results. Top up treatments may be needed in the future to maintain these results. For the optimum collagen stimulation effect with skin rejuvenation, 6 treatments at 4 week intervals would be recommended.

Is IPL right for me?

IPL can be tailored to meet your individual condition and skin type and offer superior results and patient satisfaction. IPL laser treatments is safe to do on all skin types and ages, male or female.

What are IPL skin rejuvenation treatments most commonly used to treat?

IPL skin rejuvenation treatments have the unique capacity to treat multiple skin conditions. We can treat the signs of photo-ageing, age spots, freckles, uneven pigmentation, broken capillaries / thread veins, diffuse redness, rosacea, red markings, enlarged pores, acne, uneven skin texture and fine lines and wrinkles. Men and women, of all ages and all skin types, who wish to restore a more youthful appearance to their skin, should have IPL skin rejuvenation treatments.

How safe is IPL skin rejuvenation?

It is one of the safest light-based facial treatments available. IPL skin rejuvenation is considered a non-ablative resurfacing technique, which means that it targets the lower layers of skin (dermis) without affecting the top layers of skin (epidermis). Ellipse IPL technology meets all medical and scientific requirements to ensure reliability, safety and excellent results.

What are the benefits of IPL skin rejuvenation treatments?

  • It is one of the most versatile skin treatments available, effectively treating a wide range of skin problems.

  • Lightening and removing “sun spots”, “age spots”,  and brown blotches on the face, neck, chest, hands and other areas of the body.

  • Lightening and reducing redness, rosacea, dilated blood vessels and “broken” blood vessels all over the body.

  • Helps to control flushing (like heat flushes).

  • It also has a effect of improving skin texture through collagen stimulation and improves pore size by temporarily reducing oiliness

  • Quick and simple procedure with significant anti-ageing results seen after only 1 to 2 treatments.

  • The treatment is non-invasive and gentle with minimal discomfort.

  • There is no interruption of routine activities. No “down-time” time is required or time needed to be taken off work. There are no stitches, cuts or bleeding to worry about. It is considered a safer cosmetic procedure than laser treatments with less risk of damage to the skin.

  • Improvement is gradual and natural looking. In this way, your friends, and family don't have to know that you're having treatments, unless you want them to.

  • It is less expensive than laser treatments e.g. laser tightening and resurfacing treatments.

IPL Skin Rejuvenation is also used to treat:

Thread veins / Broken capillaries / vascular lesions (Birthmarks)

How does it work?

IPL is not unlike traditional laser therapies. Focused light is absorbed by haemoglobin in blood vessels, a protein carried by red blood cells to transport oxygen. The temperature of the target blood vessel increases, and eventually the thread veins collapse and are broken down and reabsorbed by the body.

Unlike laser therapies however, IPL uses a host of different wavelengths applied in short bursts rather than one, high intensity wavelength. This confers of advantages: Short pulses of light minimize unwanted exposure of healthy cells to the treatment, hence reducing the discomfort and redness following a session. Ultimately the procedure strikes a balance between providing the high levels of heat required to effectively close and seal thread veins and minimizing exposure of surrounding, healthy cells to potentially harmful light. IPL wands also contain a UV filter which prevents harmful ultraviolet wavelengths of light from being applied to your skin.

Acne

Acne is a real problem for most people varying in age and skin type. Regardless of one’s situation, everyone experiences some form of an unsightly, inconvenient outbreak at some point in their lives.
There are many myths about the causes of acne, most surround diet and hygiene, however neither are accurate. Acne can be caused by the body’s increased production of the hormone androgen (produced by both men and women) which stimulates the sebaceous glands to produce more oil. The increased production of oil causes the pores to become blocked so that the oil cannot come up to the skin’s surface. The proprionbacterium/p-acne then feed on and break down this oil. As the bacteria multiplies, waste products and sebacic acid are created and irritate the sebaceous gland which becomes inflamed causing a blackhead (open comedone), pimple or nodule... IPL treats the propioni-bacterium in acne.

How does it work?

The light targets the porphyrins produced by the P. acne bacteria in the skin. A photo-dynamic reaction occurs and produces the free radical single oxygen which performs a selective destruction of the P. acne themselves. With successive treatments the rate of acne destruction can become greater than the growth of the bacteria leading to a reduction in the inflamed lesions and can prevent further traumatic scarring.

The light is absorbed into the blood vessels which supply the sebaceous glands. By heating up the capillaries this will reduce the blood flow to the sebaceous glands and decrease the over-production of oil in the skin.

The recommended treatment plan is 4 treatments, to take place once every 3-4 weeks. This routine can be repeated again to achieve further results if necessary.
